Chapter 1 - Jump Start to Dating

Ah, Yes...Dating!  ...Okay, here we go (again)...

I had been single for close to 18 years. As it is with many others in my age group, I had absolutely no idea where to begin after such a long hiatus. I have plenty of friends, both male and female, but I was also not completely involved with all that life has to offer.

No one really hangs out at bars anymore, or that’s what everyone claims. I’d also be interested in knowing how much success people have had  in meeting someone at a grocery store, museum, or some of the places that dating guides recommend.

After being encouraged by friends, I got involved with the online dating scene in May of 2009. Initially I signed up on two sites, one that took you through stages before setting you free to communicate openly with your match, Chemistry.com, and the other you were able to communicate directly to people through the site’s email service, Match.com. At first, I was almost driven, it was like a quest. I was disappointed when someone that I sent a message to or winked at did not respond. All of it was perplexing and frustrating for me at the start.

I’d also like to point out that this is not a guide to internet dating, but rather my personal experience with internet dating. I also know of people who have developed successful relationships through these sites. Although, I suspect some of my experiences are likely not all that unique to what other women and men have experienced.

I admit that I had some specifics in mind when it comes to my personal choices for a partner.
I want someone who is . . . well, below is the content of my dating profile:

My Dating Profile
If you want to meet me . . . all you need to know is how to say “Hello!”

ABOUT ME AND WHO I’M LOOKING FOR:
First, my photo was taken in Dec 2009. (See that smile . . .??. . .) I am pretty much always happy and am a very warm and friendly person. I don’t think that these “people ads” are a very good representation of anyone. I am willing to meet you somewhere. (Some days, I must
admit, I miss the bar scenes—you got to actually see people and note their mannerisms, see a bit of their character, body language, etc.)

Who I am ( . . . & what I’m looking for):
—truthful
—faithful
—loving
—caring
—affectionate
—intelligent
—friendly and outgoing
—devoted to the right people
—good conversationalist
—interested and interesting
—easy to please and love to please
—busy with life, but not so busy that there’s no time for romance . . .
—fine arts lover (does not mean that’s all I love)
—enjoy a good movie of almost any genre
—chef—especially enjoy cooking for others
—love a good Cabernet, Bloody Mary’s, and an occasional imported
beer
—sexy (...yes, interested in that aspect of a relationship)
—professional woman looking for an intelligent man with diverse interests
—looking for someone who can keep up with me on a brisk walk and still talk . . .
~~ what’s not to love?~~
I’d like to have a chat or two (IM, email, phone) with you & then meet you in person (that means no IM’ing or emailing for months and months please!) . . . and if you live 3 states away . . . well, do I need to say more?!!

I would prefer that you did not wink at me . . . I don’t really know what to do with that other than say thank you—AND—Nothing beats a conversation!

Hmm . . . did I mention that I was honest?

IN MY OWN WORDS
for fun: I am open for fun . . . with the exception of camping . . . have done enough of that and prefer a luxury hotel. Interested in learning to play golf . . . can you teach me?
my religion: We all say our own form of prayers—sometimes in the form of a wish, or even a “Hail Mary” type prayer. It’s important that people are good,—but you don’t necessarily need to go to church for that.
favorite hot spots: Home is my favorite place. Having said that I’ve done a decent bit of international (France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Belgium . . .) and the U. S. of course, including Hawaii (Maui) . . . and I do love to travel.
favorite things: I’m easy going will try most things once; love to cook—but not every day. I like to fish (but not hunt), although I know how to use a gun. :)
last read: I like mysteries and thrillers for fun. For work I read everything that I find interesting and that can help me do my job better. Read news on the Internet.
my pets: I believe that when people make the decision to adopt pets, it should be for a lifetime.

1.) HANG ON!! I've received complaints about taking the blog down.

Apparently, I was premature in getting rid of my blog...and I heard about it!   So, I will be posting the blog again in a condensed version, same as before, day-by-day.

NOTE: Although this is VERY closely based on a true story, I have modified statements to eliminate the names of children, grandchildren, as well as having eliminated or substituted some geographical locations to protect the innocent.

So, at this time, does the following statement apply?
  • All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
I'm not sure, but I'm using it.

Stay tuned for a new and slightly different ending (new information has been discovered) but I'm not completely sure of the validity of the new information!!  So, again, for purposes of this blog:
  • All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
Thanks,  Karin

Bye, Bye Blog, Buy My Book...

Yes, the blog is gone now...it's time to move on.

My book is available at over 2,500 booksellers right now.  If you've been reading along from the start, you know that it's a hilarious, trashy, (and occasionally sad) ...true story!  (...or at least I find it all pretty hilarious at this point in time...after having lived it.)

The book is available in hardcover, paperback and as an ebook (Kindle, etc.).
